Abbott Laboratories is recalling more than 226,000 packets of Similac brand Probiotic Tri-Blend baby food because of “serious adverse reactions to product in preterm infants.” The company initiated the recall on Oct. 31 and it is ongoing. It was just posted by the Food and Drug Administration on its “access data” website. The recall notice does not specify what kind of reactions have been reported and does not say how many babies are involved.

EVI founding partners Tom and Dana Lawson have mentored and prepared the team and will continue to provide guidance through the end of the year, the release states. Raymond Fischer has assumed the role of president of Singer EVI. Fischer brings extensive experience in foodservice and construction.

Food agencies in the United Kingdom have raised resource concerns in a report on food standards. The Food Standards Agency (FSA) and Food Standards Scotland (FSS) published a report reviewing food standards across the UK. It looked at whether they have improved, declined or stayed the same in 2022 and is the second such analysis since the UK left the European Union.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has released a guide for use of whole genome sequencing (WGS) in food safety. The guidance comes in three parts. The first explains the minimum capacity requirements in the foodborne disease surveillance and response system prior to considering implementation of WGS. The second discusses how WGS can help to support outbreak investigations and the third describes the usage of WGS in routine surveillance of foodborne diseases.

Tyson Foods, Inc. a Berryville, Ark., establishment, is recalling approximately 29,819 pounds of fully cooked, breaded, shaped chicken patty product that may be contaminated with extraneous materials, specifically metal pieces. The problem was discovered after the firm notified FSIS that it had received consumer complaints reporting small metal pieces in the chicken patty product.
