Lack of health insurance isn’t considered one of the major reasons the hospitality industry has, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, a churn rate north of 70 percent. A recent survey found that low pay, lack of recognition and bad management are three of the major variables. But let’s dig a little deeper into “lack of recognition.” To me, that says employees aren’t feeling valued by the owners and managers of their restaurants.

Latvian authorities have discovered about 18 tons of food products in a warehouse with expired or changed shelf life dates. Hepatitis A infection has been diagnosed in a server at Lolita’s Bar and Grill located at 472 Buford Drive in Lawrenceville, GA. Individuals who ate at the restaurant from Oct. 24 – Nov. 7 may have been exposed to the infection and should contact their healthcare provider or the Gwinnett County Health Department to determine if a hepatitis A vaccine is needed to prevent illness.

The Finnish Food Authority (Ruokavirasto), National Institute of Health and Welfare (THL), and local agencies investigated the outbreak, which affected more than 800 people. The incident occurred in August in Mikkeli, with mainly children falling sick.
