State testing finds Listeria in raw milk; dairy initiates recall action

The recall was initiated after routine sampling conducted by the Washington State Department of Agriculture revealed the presence of Listeria in retail raw milk dated March 4, according to an announcement from the dairy.

Restaurant complaints about meat result in 46-ton recall

MF Meats of Falconer, NY, is recalling 93,277 pounds of raw meat products, which may have been contaminated with non-food grade mineral seal oil, which is not approved for use in meat processing, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS). The raw meat items were produced from Nov. 26, 2023 through Feb. 16, 2024.

FDA stated, "After additional analysis of the cinnamon collected from the manufacturer in Ecuador (Austrofoods), FDA has confirmed that the lead and chromium previously detected in the cinnamon are from lead chromate" FDA goes on to state, "Historically, lead chromate has been illegally added to certain spices increase to their weight and enhance their color, which increases the monetary value of the adulterated spices.

HUS cases decline in Argentina but still pose a deadly problem

Argentina recorded almost 50 hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS) cases in the first six weeks of 2024. HUS is a severe complication associated with E. coli infections that causes kidney failure. The 49 cases up to mid-February are lower than the average in the same period from 2019 to 2023. In 2023, 81 cases were reported and in 2022 it was 73, according to figures published in the National Epidemiological Bulletin.
