Similac probiotics product under recall after adverse reactions in preterm babies

Abbott Laboratories is recalling more than 226,000 packets of Similac brand Probiotic Tri-Blend baby food because of “serious adverse reactions to product in preterm infants.” The company initiated the recall on Oct. 31 and it is ongoing. It was just posted by the Food and Drug Administration on its “access data” website. The recall notice does not specify what kind of reactions have been reported and does not say how many babies are involved.

Outbreak traced to pet food has sickened mostly infants; recalls underway

One person has been hospitalized and six additional people are sick in a widespread outbreak of Salmonella Kiambu infections traced to pet food, according federal public health officials. Six of the seven patients are children one year old or younger, according to the Food and Drug Administration.
